Your Alamo Ranch Roofing Contractor
High winds blow through Alamo Ranch at least once a year. Finding and trusting a roofing contractor in Alamo Ranch sometimes comes down to trust and the bottom line, the price.
When looking for a roofer in your area, here’s a few things we recommend.
- Make sure they’re at least registered with the City of San Antonio
- Have a google listing to be able to read reviews and pictures of their work.
- Make sure they do roof repair work on a regular, this verifies it’s a specialty.
- Try and hire a roofing company not a general contractor or handyman.
- Finally, get a written estimate with a warranty. If it’s not in writing, it doesn’t exist. Don’t do oral agreements.
What’s A Roof Repair Cost?
Roof repairs cost between $200 – $400, but it really depends on the situation. Some repairs are simple and fast, others can be complex and too far gone where it could cost close to $1,000 or more. Going back to the point mentioned above about trust, when you’re spending hundreds on a repair, make sure it’s going to be done right, the first time. Sure wouldn’t want to hire a fly-by-night and have to spend more to get it repaired, again.
True story, Elena, was a victim of an 80 mph tornadic wind storm that smashed Alamo Ranch and the Far West Side. She found Rox Roofing online and set an appointment. She works in Austin and couldn’t meet us on site. Her main concern was the hurricane arriving from the coast. We were able to tarp the open roof in time, gave her a written estimate and within a couple days, had the roof repaired and secured. Because of our service, she didn’t have to be home at the time of repairs. We didn’t make contact, we actually never met face to face. Everything was communicated through email and text messages. The final invoice was paid online.
Alamo Ranch Roof Hail Damage
San Antonio and surrounding areas get hit by hail about once a year. It’s normally isolated into a 2-5 mile radius. From time to time we get hit with a large severe storm that rocks the entire city.
Here’s what to do if you think your roof has been damaged by hail and what to expect.
- Contact a roofer – that you know, like and trust, NOT your insurance company. This roofer should put together an analysis report with pictures to show proof of the damages. Don’t shop roofers around. Find one you like and stick to them. A well trusted roofer will probably have a service agreement stating if the roof gets approved to replace by insurance, they are guaranteed to do the work. This is normal and they deserve it.
- Call your insurance carrier and file a claim. Your roofer should be knowledgeable on how to file a claim and walk you through the process. Have a pen handy as they will ask a few question. This process takes about 20 minutes.
- Schedule your roofer to be onsite with your insurance adjuster. The roofer is on site to represent the hail damage on the roof and collateral damage. The roofer and adjuster should work together to come up with a scope of work to make necessary repairs to bring everything back to normal before the storm hit.
- Roofing estimate. Your insurance company will come up with what they think the repair work will cost. These estimates are typically lower by 20% – 30% or more. Your roofing contractor knows exactly what it’s going to take to get the job done. The roofer and the adjuster normally meet somewhere in the middle.
- Retail vs. insurance cost. Retail is considered a “cash price” or “paying out of pocket.” This retail price is lower than insurance because, it’s a faster process. We roof and we get paid. There’s no insurance runaround. Dealing with insurance is usually a 1-3 month run around depending on the carrier. Money is held up and take weeks if not months to get paid. The biggest issue with insurance is mortgage companies and agreeing on scope of work. Remember, insurance companies are for profit, the less they pay out, the better the bottom line looks…
- Start work. Roofer will schedule material delivery and work to begin, these are usually two different days. Make sure to get everything in writing as to the scope of work. Make sure to know the difference between 3-tab shingles vs. architectural shingles and a hail proof shingle. This is your opportunity to make changes, get an upgrade and make an informed decision.
- Payment. For retail cash jobs it pretty simple. Once work it complete, do your walk around, approve work and pay the roofer. For insurance, do your walk around, approve work and your roofer will send a certificate of completion to the carrier with an invoice. The carrier will review and send off payment within 1-3 weeks. When you receive your insurance proceeds, pay your awesome roofer!
This essentially wraps up the insurance process.

Alamo Ranch Roofing Contractor
If you own a house that’s fifteen (15) years or older and have 3 tab builder grade shingles installed, you’re probably seeing shingles blow off everytime the sky sneezes.
3 tab shingles are notoriously installed all over the Far West Side of Antonio and Alamo Ranch is crawling with them. A good 3 tab brand shingle has a wind rating of 65 mph with a manufacture wind warranty. Most are rated for 25 years. Most builder grade 3 tab shingles last about 10-15 years even though they’re “rated for 25 years”
If you’re dishing out cash for repairs year after year, you may want to consider replacing your roof. Upgrading to a laminated architectural shingle might be a great option. Most reputable shingle brands have a line that warrants roofs for 40+ years and carry a wind rating of 130 mph, like the Owens Corning Duration shingle. We always recommend doing roof repairs before replacing.

Admittedly, I don’t typically leave reviews, but I often use reviews when making large financial decisions. I know…. I’m trying to be better about leaving reviews. I think it’s safe to say that none of us look forward to having to replace/repair … More a roof. Yet, it’s one of the most important components of our homes. In July 2025, the west side of San Antonio had a destructive hailstorm. Based on the strength of the storm, I knew there was going to be damage to the roof. It sounded like baseballs hitting the house. While the storm was occurring (roughly 7pm) I pulled out my phone and dialed Rox Roofing because they did some work for me several years back at a different home. It was 7pm so I wasn’t expecting to hear from them until the following business day. Nope… 5 minutes later I was speaking with someone from Rox. Seriously, they called me well after business hours. I explained what was going on and they asked me if I had an active leak. I let them know that I was unaware of any leaks yet but wanted someone braver than me to climb onto my 2-story home. They said no problem; I will have a guy at your house by 9am the following day. If there is a leak we will put a temporary cover over it until it can be fixed. As promised, my doorbell rang at 8:45am. Not bad, impressive even… They took some pictures and showed me significant damage and suggested I contact my homeowner’s insurance to file a claim. The fact is… many of my neighbors also did the same. Some even had a new roof being put on the following week. My insurance company a big brand company (I will not name them to protect the guilty), sent someone out a few weeks later, just a few days shy of a month. When I asked why it would take so long I was told “because we are busy”. That sure didn’t feel “like a great neighbor” response. Anyway, the following day, I received a call from the person handling my claim from my insurance company. He stated that I had little damage, not enough to even file a claim due to the deductible. I asked them to send me their report so that I could compare it to the report I received from my roofer. A few weeks later after calling several times, I finally received the insurance company report. Sure, enough they showed only a few areas being affected. The problem with the report was it omitted several areas of the roof, so I contacted my insurance company again and requested a second review be carried out. As expected, he upped the damage by $1,000.00. After speaking with Rocky at Rox he asked if I wanted to push a little more, so I said yes. He offered a Public Adjuster that he had worked with in the past. Now enter PALCO, the public adjuster. They scheduled a person to come to my house and document what they found, independent of Rox and my insurance company. They took pictures and sent a report to me that again showed significant hail damage. I mean all the ventilation pipes looked like someone used them for target practice. Shingles missing, hail dents in the shingles, siding, screens etc.… In the end, the insurance company was forced to pay, but only because of Rox. The day of the installation the Rox team showed up and removed my roof by 11am and had the new one on by dinner. The site manager came the following day to do an inspection of my roof. He went over everything with me, no pressures, no problems… Call Rox if you want a solid roof and a solid team working on your behalf. Anytime anyone asks me who I used or would recommend, I hand them a business card for Rox. They’re my “go-to” roof team moving forward. -

I recently hired Rox Roofing for a roof repair and had an excellent experience. From the start, the inspector, Rey, was highly professional, punctual, and knowledgeable. He conducted a thorough inspection of my roof and siding, clearly … More explaining the issues and providing a fair quote without any pressure.
The repair work itself was completed efficiently and on schedule. The crew was respectful of my property, ensuring everything was cleaned up perfectly after the job was done. I truly appreciated the transparent communication and the high quality of workmanship. If you are looking for a reliable roofing company in San Antonio, I highly recommend asking for Rey at Rox Roofing.
